From Doraville to Tucker, Decatur (Unincorporated DeKalb), Lithonia, and Stonecrest, I represent the diversity and needs of over 350,000 residents. As your next Commissioner, my intent is simple, I will support economic development, support our schools, increase property values and support public safety. As an individual who understands the issues that impact our community, I know what it takes to find solutions, navigate through complicated governmental agencies and get things done. Together we are going to achieve great success - success that you can see.
It’s time to get back to the basics of community, family, and the development of opportunities - to ensure a better tomorrow for all DeKalb residents. As your next Commissioner of District 7, I ask for three things - your prayers, confidence, and your support. As your elected public servant, I am committed to being informed and educated on issues that affect us both. Trust me to pursue the proper course of action and I will make you proud!
MY AREAS OF STRATEGIC FOCUS
Economics: Job Creation and Entrepreneurship
Ask anyone informed the single most important factor in community prosperity and they’ll say financial resources. With the election of CEO Michael Thurmond, there is a renewed confidence in DeKalb leadership, placing us is in a unique position to attract industry and grow DeKalb businesses. It’s time we focus on economics, small business development, and leveraging our assets and educated workforce to carry DeKalb to the next level.
In the African-American community, home ownership is at its lowest rate since the great depression in 1929. However, 87% of Americans identify home ownership as a part of their American Dream. It’s time we start dreaming again. When people own homes their attitudes and financial outlook change. Trust me to work with major financial institutions and across the aisle to develop home ownership programs – we all deserve the American Dream.
Education in every sense is a fundamental factor of both personal and economic development. We cannot achieve sustainable economic development without substantial investments in human capital.
Education and exposure to opportunities and resources promotes entrepreneurship and technological advances. In communities where schools excel, home values increase, jobs are more easily created and we have strong economies. Help me ensure a great K-12 education, improve struggling schools, and ensure affordable college and technical school education for all.
In recent years, DeKalb County has seen an increase in violent crime. Crime has a direct impact on business development and our overall quality of life. Crime is a very complex issue, because there are a variety of underlying issues, i.e., education and economics. I will work with our public officials to ensure they have the resources they need to combat crime and ensure public safety for all DeKalb residents.
